These are some of the most commonly asked questions that we get when people enquire about our psychiatry services, we try to answer every question in the best detail possible – if you do not see your question listed then please contact us today and we will try to get back to you as soon as possible with more information.

Psychiatry is a medical field that is strongly associated with the diagnosis, treatment, care and prevention of mental health conditions. The term psychiatry means ‘medical treatment of the mind.’

A doctor who works in psychiatry will be called a psychiatrist. They are medically qualified doctors in the field of psychiatry. Psychiatrists are able to help diagnose and treat those suffering from mental health conditions depending on what condition they have as many psychiatrists will be specialists in a specific mental health condition such as ADHD.

We have a massive range of consultant psychiatrists that are qualified and specialists in their chosen fields. Unlike other doctors, a psychiatrist will not need to physically examine a patient but their area focuses mainly on listening, talking and observing.

Due to this, thanks to advancing technology – you are now able to undertake consultations with psychiatrist specialists over video calls which is super convenient and ideal as it allows patients to get care at a quicker rate at a time that suits the person even if they are a long distance away as it does not make a difference.

All the doctors that we use here are qualified with years of experience in their field and they follow confidentiality for our patients very seriously as we understand that certain subjects can be sensitive to our patients meaning we give a completely safe and secure area where they can discuss anything.

You will not need any special equipment but you are required to have a computer, tablet or phone that is able that has a camera or webcam and microphone to be able to communicate through – this is what you will need in order to complete a consultation with our psychiatrists.

Many laptops, computers and phones that you use will normally have a camera and microphone already built into them. We highly recommend that before you join your consultation meeting you test out your camera and microphone to make sure that everything is good to go so you don’t run into any potential problems.

With an online session, we recommend that you find an area that has privacy and is quiet in order to understand and talk with the psychiatrist without missing any important information.

You are able to book a consultation in two ways.

Contact us through our website with your current situation and we will get back to you as soon as possible or you can call our support line who will be able to arrange an appointment time with you that suits both parties.

To book a consultation, we do require payment in full before you book so we recommend that you have your card ready before you decide to book an appointment.

In short terms, it is basically the same as a regular in-face psychiatry session. Once you have booked an appointment time with us, you will get a link through email or text with a secure pin and a link to the call that you told us about.

When it approaches the time, you will join the call, the psychiatrist will welcome you and then you will start to talk just as you would if you were in person but you have the convenience of being in your home or a place that suits you.

All our consultant psychiatrists are extremely qualified and have gone through years of extensive training in specific types of therapy in order to treat patients suffering from a range of mental health conditions. Whatever you or a loved one are currently suffering from, our consultants will be able to listen to what symptoms you are displaying and make a correct diagnosis and then advise you on the next best steps for treatment to help you start living a much better life overall.

Here at Psychiatry Today, we always strive to see our patients in the shortest and quickest time possible at their convivence. We are often normally able to offer appointments to our patients within one to two weeks depending on the volume of people trying to book appointments. The initial appointment will be a 60-minute consultation that takes place via face-to-face or video link.

Not necessarily as all patients when assessed will be given a unique treatment plan that is best for the patient based on a number of factors such as genetics, personality, environment and more. It is common for some patients to be advised to take controlled medication if they have severe symptoms or going through a very difficult time in their life so they will be able to experience improved functioning. It is also very common for those on medication to get treatment such as therapy that helps them work through their emotional struggles. Once the symptoms are managed better, your medication plan will be re-looked at again.
